기다리는 엘리베이터는 왜 늘 반대 방향으로 올까
엘리베이터 역설
아래층에 있으면 오는 엘리베이터가 자꾸 내려가는 중이고, 위층에 있으면 자꾸 올라가는 중인 것 같아요. 아래층 쪽엔 내 위로 지나는 구간이 더 길어서 실제로 그런 경우가 많아요. 1958년 물리학자 가모프와 스턴이 사무실에서 이걸 알아채고 이름을 붙였어요.

Near the bottom of a building, the first elevator to arrive tends to be heading down; near the top, heading up. More of the shaft lies on one side of you, so it really does happen more often. Physicists George Gamow and Marvin Stern noticed it at work and wrote about it in 1958.
