중고차 시장에 좋은 차가 줄어드는 이유

파는 사람만 차 상태를 알면, 사는 사람은 평균값만 내려 해서 좋은 차 주인은 팔기를 꺼리고 결국 나쁜 차만 남아요. 미국에선 겉은 멀쩡한데 속이 엉망인 중고차를 '레몬'이라고 불러요. 1970년 경제학자 조지 애컬로프가 논문으로 밝혀 2001년 노벨 경제학상을 받았어요.

The market for lemons · Why good cars disappear from the used car market
When only sellers know a car's condition, buyers will pay only an average price, so owners of good cars stop selling and only bad ones remain. In the US a used car that looks fine but is a wreck inside is called a lemon. Economist George Akerlof described this in 1970 and won the 2001 Nobel Prize.
