값이 오르면 오히려 더 사는 이상한 물건

보통은 값이 오르면 덜 사지만, 가난한 집의 주식처럼 값이 오르면 더 사는 물건도 있어요. 쌀값이 오르면 고기 같은 비싼 음식을 포기하고 그 돈으로 쌀을 더 사게 되기 때문이에요. 오랫동안 이론에만 있었는데 2008년 중국 후난성의 쌀 연구에서 실제 사례가 확인됐어요.

Normally higher prices mean people buy less, but for a poor family's staple, a price rise can mean buying more. If rice gets pricier, they drop costlier foods like meat and spend the money on more rice. Long only a theory, it was confirmed in a 2008 study of rice in China's Hunan province.
