가난할수록 먹는 데 쓰는 돈 비중이 큰 이유
엥겔의 법칙
소득이 늘어도 먹는 양은 그만큼 늘지 않아서, 잘살수록 전체 지출에서 식비가 차지하는 비중이 줄어들어요. 1857년 독일 통계학자 에른스트 엥겔이 가계부 자료로 밝혔어요. 이 비율을 '엥겔 지수'라 부르고 생활 수준을 보는 잣대로 써요.

Engel's law · Why poorer households spend more of their money on food
As income rises, food spending doesn't rise as fast, so food takes a smaller share of the budget. German statistician Ernst Engel showed this from household budgets in 1857. The share, called the Engel coefficient, is used as a gauge of living standards.
