책 여백이 좁아 증명을 못 적었다는 350년 숙제
페르마의 마지막 정리
1637년쯤 페르마는 책 여백에 'aⁿ+bⁿ=cⁿ은 n이 3 이상이면 답이 없다, 놀라운 증명을 찾았지만 여백이 좁다'고 적었어요. 이 문제는 350년 넘게 풀리지 않다가 1994년 앤드루 와일스가 증명했어요. 그 증명은 페르마 시대에는 없던 수학을 써서 100쪽이 넘어요.

Around 1637 Fermat wrote in a margin that aⁿ + bⁿ = cⁿ has no solutions for n of 3 or more, adding that he had a marvelous proof the margin was too small to hold. It stayed unsolved for over 350 years until Andrew Wiles proved it in 1994. His proof runs over 100 pages and uses math that didn't exist in Fermat's day.
