오류를 왜 '벌레'라고 부를까
컴퓨터 버그의 유래
1947년 미국 하버드대의 컴퓨터 '마크 II'를 고치다가 기계 안에서 진짜 나방이 나와 작업 일지에 테이프로 붙여 뒀어요. 일지에는 '실제로 벌레가 발견된 첫 사례'라고 적혀 있었어요. 다만 기계 결함을 버그라 부르는 말은 에디슨 시대부터 있었고, 이 일화가 그 말을 유명하게 만든 거예요.

In 1947, while fixing Harvard's Mark II computer, operators found a real moth inside and taped it into the logbook. The note read 'First actual case of bug being found.' But engineers had called glitches bugs since Edison's day; the moth just made the word famous.
