티 나는 표시가 없으면 극단적인 생각을 비꼬는 글과 진짜로 그렇게 믿는 사람의 글을 구별하기 어렵다는 말이에요. 2005년 한 토론 게시판에서 네이선 포라는 사람이 쓴 글에서 이름이 붙었어요. 반어 표시를 붙이는 문화가 생긴 이유이기도 해요.

Without a clear signal, a parody of an extreme view is hard to tell apart from the real thing. It's named after Nathan Poe, who wrote it on a discussion forum in 2005. It's one reason people add sarcasm markers online.
