말 빠르기와 정보량
어떤 언어는 유난히 빠르게 들리지만, 1초에 전하는 정보량은 언어마다 비슷해요. 2019년 17개 언어를 비교한 연구에서 음절당 정보가 적은 언어는 빨리 말하고, 정보가 많은 언어는 천천히 말해서 결국 비슷한 양을 전했어요. 사람 뇌가 소화할 수 있는 속도에 맞춰진 거라고 봐요.

Speech rate and information · Do fast-sounding languages say more?
Some languages sound faster, but they carry about the same information per second. A 2019 study of 17 languages found that languages with less information per syllable are spoken faster, and denser ones slower. The rate seems tuned to what our brains can handle.
