In English

The initial sound rule · Why it's 'yeoja,' not 'nyeoja'

In South Korean standard language, an 'r/l' or 'ny' sound at the start of a word changes to 'n' or a silent 'ㅇ'. So 女子 becomes 'yeoja' and 理髮 becomes 'ibal'. North Korea doesn't use this rule and writes 'nyeoja' and 'ribal'.
