빙하 속 얼음은 왜 파랗게 빛날까
파란 빙하
빙하 얼음은 오랫동안 눌려서 공기 방울이 거의 없고 아주 두꺼워요. 빛이 그 속을 깊이 지나가면서 빨간 쪽 빛이 얼음에 조금씩 흡수되고 파란빛이 남아요. 공기 방울이 많은 눈이나 얼음은 빛을 다 흩어서 하얗게 보여요.

Glacier ice is compressed for ages, leaving few air bubbles, and it's very thick. As light travels deep inside, the ice absorbs a little of the red end, leaving blue. Snow and bubbly ice scatter all colors and look white.
