유령 체증
앞차가 살짝 브레이크를 밟으면 뒤차는 조금 더 세게 밟고, 그게 뒤로 갈수록 커져서 결국 멈추는 구간이 생겨요. 2008년 일본 나고야대 연구진은 둘레 230m 원형 도로에 차 22대를 시속 30km로 달리게 했는데 장애물 없이도 정체가 생겼어요. 이 정체 덩어리는 차들과 반대 방향으로 천천히 뒤로 움직여요.

One car taps its brakes, the next brakes a bit harder, and the effect grows down the line until cars stop. In 2008 Japanese researchers had 22 cars drive at 30 km/h on a 230 m circular track, and a jam formed with no obstacle at all. The jam itself slowly travels backward against the flow.
