Braess's paradox · Why removing a road can ease traffic

If everyone picks their own fastest route, a new road can draw everyone in and slow the whole network. Conversely, closing a road sometimes doesn't make traffic worse. German mathematician Dietrich Braess described it in 1968, and the removal of Seoul's Cheonggye overpass is often cited as an example.
