1919년 1월 미국 보스턴에서 당밀을 담은 거대한 탱크가 터져 몇 미터 높이의 당밀 파도가 거리를 휩쓸었어요. 21명이 숨지고 150명쯤 다쳤어요. 끈적한 당밀이 차가운 날씨에 굳으면서 구조가 더 어려웠다는 연구도 있어요.

The Boston Molasses Flood · The day a wave of molasses swept a city
In January 1919 a huge molasses tank in Boston burst, sending a wave several meters high through the streets. Twenty-one people died and about 150 were injured. Research suggests the cold made the molasses thicken, which hampered rescue.
