홍학은 왜 한 다리로 서 있을까
홍학 외다리
한 다리로 서면 몸 무게중심이 다리 바로 위에 와서 근육을 거의 안 써도 버틸 수 있어요. 2017년 미국 연구에서는 죽은 홍학 몸도 한 다리로 세워 둘 수 있었대요. 물에 담근 다리 하나를 줄여 체온을 지킨다는 설명도 있어요.

On one leg, a flamingo's center of mass sits right over the foot, so it barely needs muscle to stay up. A 2017 US study found even a dead flamingo's body could be balanced on one leg. Keeping one less leg in cold water may also save body heat.
