많은 바다거북은 알이 묻힌 모래 온도로 새끼의 성별이 정해져요. 따뜻하면 암컷이, 서늘하면 수컷이 더 많이 나와요. 그래서 지구가 더워지며 암컷만 너무 많아질까 걱정하는 연구가 많아요. 악어도 온도로 성별이 정해져요.
