살아남은 것만 보면 틀린 결론이 나오는 이유
생존 편향
2차 세계대전 때 미군은 돌아온 폭격기의 총알 자국이 많은 곳을 보강하려 했어요. 통계학자 왈드는 오히려 자국이 없는 곳을 보강하라고 했는데, 거기 맞은 비행기는 돌아오지 못했기 때문이에요. 성공한 사람 이야기만 듣고 비결을 따라 하면 놓치는 게 많은 것도 같은 이유예요.

Survivorship bias · Why looking only at survivors leads you astray
In WWII, planners wanted to armor the spots where returning bombers had bullet holes. Statistician Abraham Wald pointed out the holes showed where planes could be hit and survive; the ones hit elsewhere never came back. Copying only success stories misses the same thing.
