구급차 소리가 지나가면 낮아지는 이유
도플러 효과
소리 나는 게 다가올 때는 음파가 촘촘해져서 높게, 멀어질 때는 늘어져서 낮게 들려요. 19세기 오스트리아 과학자 도플러가 설명해서 이 이름이 붙었어요. 과속 단속기나 날씨 레이더도 이 원리를 써요.

When a sound source approaches, the waves bunch up and sound higher; as it moves away they stretch and sound lower. It's named after 19th-century Austrian scientist Doppler. Speed guns and weather radar use the same principle.
