박쥐는 사람이 못 듣는 높은 소리를 내고, 그 소리가 물체에 부딪혀 돌아오는 메아리로 주변을 그려요. 돌아오는 시간과 세기로 거리와 크기, 움직임까지 알아내서 날아다니는 작은 벌레도 잡아요. 돌고래도 비슷한 방법을 써요.
