무지개는 왜 반원 모양일까
무지개가 둥근 이유
햇빛이 빗방울 안에서 꺾이고 반사되면, 해 반대쪽을 중심으로 약 42도 각도에서만 무지개 색이 눈에 들어와요. 그 각도를 이은 모양이 원이라서 무지개가 둥근 거예요. 땅에 가려서 반원으로 보일 뿐, 비행기에서는 동그란 무지개를 볼 수도 있어요.

Sunlight bends and reflects inside raindrops, and you see the colors only at about 42 degrees from the point directly opposite the sun. All the points at that angle form a circle, so rainbows are round. The ground hides the bottom half; from a plane you can sometimes see a full circle.
