홍학은 원래 분홍색이 아니라고요?
홍학이 분홍인 이유
홍학은 태어날 땐 회색빛이고, 먹는 것 때문에 분홍색이 돼요. 먹이인 조류와 작은 새우에 든 카로티노이드 색소가 깃털에 쌓이는 거예요. 그래서 동물원에서도 색소가 든 먹이를 줘야 분홍빛이 유지돼요.

Flamingos hatch grayish and turn pink from what they eat. Carotenoid pigments in the algae and tiny shrimp they feed on build up in their feathers. Zoos have to add these pigments to their food to keep them pink.
